song analysis

The lyrics behind this song have a deep meaning because it is mainly about the death of Paul Walker and how his friendship with everyone has ended and that he is in a better place. They refer to him as family, which he also referred to in the Fast and Furious films. The lyrics are very slow to let them sink into the audience because they will also feel like they have lost a friend and that watching Fast and Furious 7 will help them feel a little bit better.

Charlie tends to have a switch in his normal voice and falsetto which impresses the listener because it shows dynamic in his range. Besides the fact that he varies through his range, it almost as if he tends to keep the volume of his vocals at a certain point, this is interesting as his way of singing causes the song to be more intimate and meaningful.

Also, the main riff that catches my attention is a piano arpeggio on the piano which used in the beginning of each verse. There's not many effects on the piano which makes it sound slightly dry, however, this is a good technique as the dryness effect relates back to the intimacy of the track and the tension being built up. Despite the dryness effect of the piano, the song continuously builds by adding in complex beats and layered back vocals which creates a richer and fuller sound.

Wiz Khalifa's rap is melodically catchy, as the song is very melodic and emotional, there seems to be more rhythm in the way he is rapping as he also sings in the pre chorus of the track.
