Music Performance - Billie Jean, Come Together and One love

We all had a task to make our own version of: Billie Jean, Come Together and One Love. The most difficult song to arrange was Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, instrumentally the song wasn't too difficult to re create, however, vocally the song was difficult to interpret due to the key and change in notes. Therefore, we had to lower the key of the song so the song was easier to sing. Come Together by The Beatles was undoubtedly the easiest song to arrange due to the simple melody and perfect vocal range for the singers.

One Love by Bob Marley was partly difficult due to the song being very different in style, this was particularly a major problem as most of the singers weren't aware of this vocal style, this made the song harder to re create. However, the melody of the drums was quiet repeatable and constant making it easy and also the guitar was particularly easy. However, some chord changes caused a bit of confusion making it hard to play.

In today's lesson, I managed to quantise my four bar loop and I also used the velocity tool to signify the power or strength of the chord or melody. I also used the scissor tool to cut up notes.

Access time

In this access time I have managed to make a short idea which has a rap/trap vibe, mainly the beat and the piano creates this sort of vibe. The tempo of the track started at 120 bpm, however, I increased the tempo to 150 as the I found the sound to slow and boring. Now that the tempo is faster, the sound is much more catchy and developed.

Reggae

Elements of Reggae

Percussion leads the flow and tempo of the song and it also is emphasized on the off beat.
Repetition is also a main part of reggae which causes the song to be melodic.
A change of chord progression at the end of the bar. The piano is normally used as a staccato for the melody of the song, this creates a very vibrant and bright sound. The guitar also emphasizes the off beat. The chords used are normally quiet simple which creates simplicity, however, it also makes the song easy to remember. In terms of the vocals, they are sang at a particular range, generally at a mid key.

Logic access time

In this session, I managed to make a mid tempo track, I like this short track as the piano is very melodic and the beat manages to compliment the track really well. Even though the track is complete, the piano is truly melodic which will be able to accompany the vocals.

Access Time Jason Derulo "If I'm Lucky"

Recently, I have been listening to Jason Derulo's new song called "If I'm Lucky". This song has caught my attention mainly because of Jason's vocals in general, the way he uses the softness of his vocals to create emotion and freedom in the song is really interesting and unique. The melodic guitar compliments the track a lot as the melody is really catchy and bright. Even though the track is quiet simple, that is what makes the track special and different from the others as the guitar and the beat and the vocals are what make the song sound complete.

Logic Week 1

The instruments I used was a machine looper which has a very minimal amount of drumming sounds. I also used a classic organ that created a very unique and slightly unusual sound.

The Beatles

                                                     The Beatles

The Beatles produced Abbey Road at the end of the 1960’s; it was a marvelous set-piece finale for the group.
This album had a special dense texture, complexity and full of energy.

“Come Together” started as Lennon’s attempt to write a song for Timothy Leary’s campaign for governor of California against Ronald Reagan which promptly ended when Leary was sent to prison for possession of Marijuana. Lennon played rhythm guitar and sang the vocal, delivering the track with his quirky vocals whilst Starr accompanied with a slow but aggressive drumbeat, giving the track a distinctive sound. McCartney’s heavy bass riff and handclaps in the intro instantly grabs your attention.
The Beatles recording technology included sampling and artificial double tracking, the use of classical instruments and guitar feedback. The microphones were placed closer to the instruments in order to produce a fuller sound. The chords used on Lennon’s guitar are repeatedly used in both verses and doesn’t include a strumming pattern.
Come Together uses a vague and speculative form of lyrics, even though we know the origin of the song, the lyrics itself are a particular example of a wordplay and metaphorical language.
