Review 2

The content of the performances were to play modern and old famous songs. The songs weren't necessarily being covered but being interpreted in their own way using instruments such as: Guitar, Drums and Piano. Three bands performed in which the opening two bands sang both covers and originals in which they all vocalized and played instruments. The last band JCP, played a mixture of contemporary songs and old songs and played their own way using the Piano, Drums and Guitar.

The performers were successful in engaging the audience as during the ten minute breaks they would talk to audience to remind them about refreshment at the bar. Additionally, during the performance the bands were engaging with the audience as they used a lot of eye contact and moved around a lot.
The use of vocal harmony also created a sense of brightness which engaged the audience and caused them to cheer. Techniques they used to engage the audience was mainly based on their performance, for example, with the drummer, when songs came to an end drum fills were used which caused a lot of attention.

The standout moment for me was mainly when songs that were known such as: Rock star by Post Malone and Aladdin by Notes were played it stood out for me because what made it special was that it caused a lot of excitement from the audience. Also, when known songs were being played it made the whole performance special particularly with the arrangement. The difference between the bands was that since the first two bands played original music, it was difficult to show excitement over it, however, due to the harmonies and great vocals it made the performances really nice to watch.

My overall impression of the show was that it was really good and exciting because the performers were really talented and performed to the best of their ability. The show in general was a fantastic way to end the evening as all the songs played were catchy and vibrant.

1980's music

The 1980's music varied from: contemporary R&B, Pop/Rock and Hip Hop. When Margret Thatcher came into power, she was massively against the genre of punk rock or heavy metal which caused a lot of rock artists to go against her. Main successful artists in the 1980's involved singers such as: Michael Jackson, WHAM, Prince, Madonna and Whitney Houston.

Prog Rock is a sub rock genre which involved long guitar solos and complex patterns throughout a song. It also involved  long instrumental parts and musical solos.

Audio continued

The first thing we went through was processing audio by importing an audio from the apple loops and we discussed how apple loops are a sample which contain temp information.
Observing timing of the audio when importing sample loops. (how the waves look when zoomed in)
We also looked at resizing and re looping and bouncing the audio in place.
The last thing we went through was to time stretch (the flex tool)

Babymetal

Babymetal is probably one of the only bands in this world who cover all genres of music all in one song. Their song 'Gimme Chocolate' generally comes across as confusing and compressed, however, it simultaneously comes across as unique. Besides the band being unique, I personally review them as odd and completely contradicting to their look and vocal tone and sound. When looking at these three teenage girls live on stage, I see pop vocals mixed with Heavy-metal/Pop-rock background instruments, it is pretty clear the young girls are unaware of the musical direction they want to follow.

The band was first created in 2010 in which the girls were 11-12 years old at the time. Their album was first released in February 2014 which a had major success in Japan andthen two years later they released their second album worldwide. They first signed to a record label in 2013 in which their first single sold over 18,000 copies and toped at number 6 on the weekly single charts.

Analogue to digital conversion

Sound is transferred from analogue to digital.

Analogue audio is the compression and rarefaction of air molecules received by the human ear or microphone, the molecules then move which then causes the diaphragm of the microphone to move in and out sending signals to the audio interface which is the converted to digital information. Once the computer receives this information, it can then be distributed, once it is distributed and played back, it is converted back into an analogue signal which causes the speakers to vibrate due to sound waves vibrating causing the eardrums to move.

Frequency is the cycles of sound waves per second.

Amplitude is how low or loud the sound is.

Digital audio is the representation of analogue audio in the computer.

Tutorial

James Brown was born on the third of may 1933. He joined a Birdy's group which at the time was a gospel/R&B group. He had joined the band shortly after one of the members "Troy Collins" was killed. The group was managed by Berry Trimier in which they performed at parties near colleges to attract the younger audience. They eventually signed to King Records' Federal in which their first song 'Please, Please, Please' was their first hit single.

In the 1970's, he was nicknamed the Godfather of soul in which he is still remembered as in this day. He played many instruments such as: vocals, organ, drums and guitar.
